Savate kicks, canne strikes and a parasol with opinions. A 2D one-on-one fighting game set backstage in Vellaine, 1900, where the cabaret staff settle things after the last curtain.
Vellaine is hosting its Exposition, and the dancers, doormen and acrobats of its cabarets have signed up for a tournament under the iron tower. Twelve fighters, six stages, sixty-second rounds, best of three. Four posters are up tonight. Each one opens its act.
Also on the billTomas Varga, Madame Odile, Henri le Petit, Ines Ferrand, Père Gaspard and Mireille. Their posters go up as the season goes on.

The Acts
four numbers: one move, one object, one sentence each
Colette
“La Vipère” Marchand
She dances the second set at Le Gris and has fought the first set since she was sixteen. Her boots are soled for the stage, which is to say for your jaw.
Signature: Coup de Talon, a heel strike thrown straight up from the hip.
Accessoire: a steel hairpin. Three moves while it holds, and one more when it snaps and the bun comes down.
Auguste
Monsieur Auguste Pelletier, master of canne
He has taught three generations of doormen and apologises before every strike. He means it every time.
Signature: Le Tourniquet Poli, the polite turnstile. The cane circles once, then you are looking at the ceiling.
Every Accessoire takes three blocked blows. On the third it breaks and the bout goes on bare-handed. Try it on his cane.
The cane is whole. Three nicks near the grip, no cracks.
Zélie
Zélie Thibault, of the wash-houses
Nineteen. She learned to kick low on wet cobbles with forty kilos of other people's linen on her back, and she has not stopped scowling since.
Signature: Genou de Lessive, the laundry knee. Two steps in, one knee up, no warning. Her style has a street name, Pas de Rue.
Accessoire: a tin soap bucket, swung, dropped or worn as a helmet.
Baptiste
Baptiste Okonkwo, of the Big Top
He spends more of a bout upside down than upright, and the crowd stopped trying to tell which falls are planned.
Signature: La Vrille, a spinning kick that starts on his hands and ends on your hat.
Accessoire: a powder rose silk scarf that wraps a wrist, a cane or a neck, in that order of politeness.

Coup d'éclat
a shadow number you can play, with no losing
In the shadow theatre the opponent always tells you what is coming. You only have to believe them. Every fighter in PARASOLRUSH telegraphs, and you win by reading the tell.
Parasol rising: guard High. Cane trembling: guard Middle. Fan snapping shut: guard Low. Use the buttons, the keys 1, 2 and 3, or the arrow keys while a guard button has focus. Two clean parries in a row open an Éclat poster.
The parasol rises.

In the full game, clean hits fill the Éclat meter, and a full meter opens a finishing move. The gramophone adds the sound of each parry.

Stage Door
one blue slip, sent by tube
Vellaine moves its post by pneumatic tube. Write your address on the petit bleu, the little blue slip, and send it down. One letter comes back up on launch day.
You get one message when PARASOLRUSH opens, and that is all.
Monsieur Pelletier minds the door. He takes slips with a bow and refuses everything else with the same bow.
